Assured Breeder relishes 'fantastic' trip to Florida
Returning from sunny Florida, Louise Paterson, a Kennel Club Assured Breeder from Wigan, has spoken about her time at the American Kennel Club Eukanuba Invitational Show and her surprise at winning the Kennel Club Assured Breeder Puppy Pack competition.
Louise, who breeds Swedish Vallhunds won return flights, four nights’ hotel accommodation and tickets to the AKC Eukanuba Invitational Show after winning the special competition for Assured Breeders.
Louise said “This was my first time in Florida and my first time and the AKC Eukanuba Invitational show so it was a once in a lifetime experience for me. The show was incredible and a real highlight was watching Britain come third in the World Challenge competition. It was an amazing experience but I did miss my dogs so seeing them has helped to dust away any post-holiday blues.”
Almost 4,000 dogs competed at the American Kennel Club Eukanuba Invitational Show which serves as the only all breed qualifying show in America for entry into Crufts. The Best In Show Winner was GCH CH Jaset's Satisfaction, otherwise known as London, a Standard Poodle from Florida, USA.
Louise was selected as the winner of the competition which asked Assured Breeders to send in their puppy packs to be judged by a special panel. Judge Frank Kane said: “The standard of entries was very high, with many innovative puppy packs being sent in; clearly showing how much work went in to them. In our opinion, Louise’s entry was logical and well ordered, with lots of appropriate material for new puppy buyers that was presented in a very reader-friendly way. It was an excellent model for other breeders to follow.”
Puppy packs are an important part of the Kennel Club Assured Breeder Scheme, as they provide new dog owners with a wealth of information they will require throughout the dog’s life. A puppy pack is traditionally the written information given to a puppy buyer, and should include diet sheets, vaccination records, advice on grooming, tips on exercise, training and socialisation etc. The packs should give advice on everything a buyer could possibly need to know about looking after their dog, not just as a puppy but into adulthood too.
The AKC Eukanuba Invitational Show was held on December 17/18 at the new state-of-the-art Orange County Convention Centre, situated in the heart of Orlando’s tourist district.

The Kennel Club is the largest organisation in the UK devoted to dog health, welfare and training. Its objective is to ensure that dogs live healthy, happy lives with responsible owners.
It runs the country’s largest registration database for both pedigree and crossbreed dogs and the Petlog database, which is the UK’s largest reunification service for microchipped animals. The Kennel Club Assured Breeder Scheme is the only scheme in the UK that monitors and sets standards for breeders, in order to protect the welfare of puppies and breeding bitches. It also runs the UK’s largest dog training programme, the Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme and licenses shows and clubs across a wide range of activities, which help dog owners to bond and enjoy life with their dogs. The Kennel Club runs the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, and the Discover Dogs event at Earls Court, London, which is a fun family day out that educates people about how to buy responsibly and care for their dog.
The Kennel Club invests the money that it makes from registrations and its Petlog identification database into its dog training and education programmes, welfare campaigns and the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, which supports dog welfare charities and research into dog diseases. The Kennel Club jointly runs health screening schemes with the British Veterinary Association and through the Charitable Trust, funds the Kennel Club Genetics Centre at the Animal Health Trust, which is at the forefront of pioneering research into dog health.
