How do I enter the competition?

Who can enter the competition?
Open to all ages for five of the categories: 

  • Portrait
  • Dogs at Play
  • Dogs at Work
  • Man’s Best Friend
  • Puppies

Under 16s only may enter the under 16’s category:

  • “I Love Dogs Because …”

How many photos can I enter into the competition?
You can participate with one photograph per category (total of five categories for anyone over 16)

When does the competition open for entries this year?
The competition officially opens during Crufts 7 – 10 March 2013

When does the competition close?
Last entries will be accepted until midnight, 31 August 2013

When do you announce the winners?  
Judging takes place early September and winners will be notified by telephone by October 1st 2013

Who’s judging the competition? 
We select a panel of professional dog photographers from the UK as well as key members of photographic institutions and two of our Kennel Club executives

What are the prizes?
Our main overall winner receives the accolade and presentation at Discover Dogs 2013*  which takes place at Earl’s Court, London on 9-10 November and we award our main winners with trophies and rosettes, runner-ups receive rosettes and certificates.  We also have some wonderful gifts such as leads and collars donated by sponsors.  The main overall winning photo from all categories receives the honour of being on our prestigious flagship publication, The Kennel Gazette – the UK’s oldest dog magazine.

*Travel and accommodation to Discover Dogs is not included in the prize for winners or runner-ups for DPOTY 2013.  However, free tickets to Discover Dogs will be provided (including free tickets for up to six family members).  All travel, accommodation and expenses related to receiving trophies or rosettes at Discover Dogs in London is the responsibility of the winners.
