Agility Team GB squad selected for European Open Championships 2011
The Kennel Club has announced the names of this year’s Agility Team GB squad who will represent their country at the 2011 European Open Championships in Austria.
The successful handlers and their dogs were chosen at a special selection day for competitors from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, hosted at the Lincoln Agility Enthusiasts Open Agility Show last weekend (16th – 17th April 2011).
Open to all
The European Open will be held in SVÖ Bad Hall near Salzburg, Austria, on 29th – 31st July 2011. Held under the auspices of the FCI, the European Open differs from the Agility World Championships in that both pedigree and non-pedigree dogs may compete.
A system of ranking events was again used during 2010 to qualify dogs from England for the selection day. The qualifiers were open classes for Grade 6 and 7 dogs held at a series of designated Kennel Club licensed Open and Championship Agility Shows. Dogs and handlers accumulated points to make the cut for the selection day.
As in previous years, the selection day was very competitive and testing. Graham Partridge, the KC International Teams Manager, said: 'We have a fantastic team of very talented dogs and handlers and I am confident that they will be a great advert for British agility. I am sure we will return home again with more medals.
