Charitable Trust Case Study - Pets as Therapy

£5,000 funding towards the Phobic Children Project.

Pets%20as%20Therapy%20logoChildren are sometimes referred to Pets As Therapy (PAT) when their fear of dogs becomes debilitating and prevents them from doing everyday things like walking to school, playing in the park etc.

The Phobic Children Project is a pilot scheme which helps children learn to cope around dogs and also through anxiety management strategies and contact with a PAT dog owner and trainer.

By the end of the therapy the children will be confident about coping with dogs and able to live a full life as in the case of one ten year old who arrived at the centre with an extreme fear of dogs, which often took over her daily life.  After the therapy she was not only confident around dogs but is now also keen to get a pet dog herself.
