Charitable Trust Case Study - Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust has been making donations to Hearing Dogs For Deaf People for a number of years.Kenny

Hearing Dogs For Deaf People carefully selects and trains dogs to work with deaf people assisting them in everyday situations by alerting them to sounds such as a ringing alarm clock, a doorbell, a smoke alarm etc. Most dogs are chosen from rescue centres, effectively giving unwanted dogs useful lives to the benefit of deaf people. Hearing dogs are free to deaf people.

The Trust's donations have concentrated on the charity's puppy socialising scheme. Prior to the four months of sounds training, every dog lives with a puppy socialiser for a period of 2-10 months, depending on the age of the dog when it enters the scheme. With the socialiser, the dog will learn basic obedience and be introduced to everyday aspects of life such as traffic, children, cats and other dogs.
