Charitable Trust Case Study - British Veterinary Nursing Association (BNVA) Bursary

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust has funded a new £5,000 bursary, which was awarded by the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) to Jennifer Driscoll a veterinary nursing degree student.

Jennifer, from Wanstead, London, has recently begun the second year of her BSc Veterinary Nursing degree at Middlesex University and was chosen as the outstanding applicant by the BVNA.

She impressed the selection panel with her enthusiasm and experience, having already worked part-time in a veterinary practise for four years prior to starting her degree, and will put the bursary towards the cost of her course fees, travel and living expenses.

Applicants for the bursary were required to be undertaking a Veterinary Nursing Degree at a University or College, be members of the BVNA and, if under the age of 25, be a member of the Young Kennel Club. Jennifer will provide an annual written report on her progress to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust and BVNA, and when she graduates will be known as ‘The Kennel Club Charitable Trust Veterinary Nurse’.

The main aim of the Kennel Club Charitable Trust is ‘Making a difference for dogs’, which it achieves by providing grants to organisations which promote the advancement of science and further research into canine diseases, the quality of life of humans whose dogs act as therapeutic and physical aids and the relief of dogs in need of care and attention.

Said Mike Townsend, Chairman of the Kennel Club Charitable Trust: “The Trust is delighted to be able to offer this bursary, which will help Jennifer Driscoll achieve her aim of becoming a qualified Veterinary Nurse. She has demonstrated her commitment to her ambition to become the best nurse that she can, and the Trust has demonstrated its commitment to the care of dogs and other animals through this award.”
