Animal Health Trust - Final instalment of £25,000 funding towards the ‘Identification of Genetic Markers Linked to Genes for Four Inherited Canine Diseases’.

Back in 2003 the KCCT began funding (together with Breed Clubs) the AHT’s investigation into genetic conditions in dogs, with the objective of developing DNA tests which will enable selective breeding away from the condition. Read Further....

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People - £5,000 funding towards the sponsorship of a hearing dog.  

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People was launched at the 1982 Crufts Dog Show and since then the charity has continued to train dogs to alert deaf people to specific sounds, whether in the home, workplace or public buildings. So far they have placed over 1200 hearing dogs throughout England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. Read Further....

Pets as Therapy - £5,000 funding towards the Phobic Children Project

Children are sometimes referred to Pets As Therapy (PAT) when their fear of dogs becomes debilitating and prevents them from doing everyday things like walking to school, playing in the park etc. Read Further....

Tom and ViggoDogs for the Disabled - £17,000 funding to support the training of two assistance dogs for children

In 2004 Dogs for the Disabled started a pilot project to train three assistance dog teams to work specifically with children for the first time. The help that a trained dog provides a disabled child is fundamental in allowing them to reduce the dependence they would otherwise have on other family members. Read Further....

Assisi Animal Sanctuary - £5,000 funding towards a new Animal Ambulance 

In the last 12 months 4000 dogs were destroyed in Northern Ireland and although this is 5% better that the previous year the Assisi Animal Sanctuary (part of the ADCH) are still working hard to reduce this statistic through their Chance of a Lifetime scheme. Read Further....

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
The Kennel Club Charitable Trust has been making donations to Hearing Dogs For Deaf People for a number of years.

Hearing Dogs For Deaf People carefully selects and trains dogs to work with deaf people assisting them in everyday situations by alerting them to sounds such as a ringing alarm clock, a doorbell, a smoke alarm etc. Most dogs are chosen from rescue centres, effectively giving unwanted dogs useful lives to the benefit of deaf people. The Kennel Club Charitable Trust has worked with the Animal Health Trust for many years on a number of research and development projects.

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust has funded a new £5,000 bursary, which was awarded by the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) to Jennifer Driscoll a veterinary nursing degree student. Read further....

Veterinary Nursing Grant

In late 2004, the Kennel Club agreed to sponsor the Veterinary Nursing team at Edinburgh’s Telford College.  Their generous gift has supported us in providing a high standard of veterinary nurse training, both for our full-time courses, run jointly with the University of Glasgow’s faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and for our block-release courses for students already in employment.  Read further....
