Local Springer Spaniel Shows Dorset How It Is Done

Best In Show at Bournemouth Canine Association ShowA two year old English Springer Spaniel called James from Nuneaton was top dog at the Bournemouth Canine Association Championship Dog Show last weekend as he was judged Best in Show, beating off competition from over 7,000 dogs from around the country.

Proud owner and local breeder Ann Corbett said: “I am so happy with James - he is such an exuberant and boisterous boy it is difficult to know what he is going to do in the ring. James is very kind - he loves everyone and really enjoys playing with our five other Springer Spaniels at home, and he is very young at heart.”

Ann is a Kennel Club Accredited Breeder and James is testament to a professional and healthy attitude towards breeding. Kennel Club Accredited Breeders agree to have all of the required health tests for their dogs carried out and follow comprehensive guidelines to ensure their dogs have the best chance of producing happy, healthy puppies. Ann has also been the Top Breeder of English Springer Spaniels in the country, based on show wins, for the last four years.

Ann was encouraged into dog showing over thirty years ago when she purchased a Springer Spaniel. “The breeder said that my Springer Spaniel was top of his game and so I had to show him,” she says. “I took her advice and went along to a few shows. I quickly made lots of friends and started doing well and everything unfolded from there.”

James is one of countless dogs who are helping to demonstrate the many advantages of dog showing. Dog shows are an incentive to breed healthy dogs, a forum to monitor whether this is being done and a platform to educate the breeders and owners of the future. They are a celebration of man’s relationship with his dog, and attending shows brings dogs and their owners closer together, ensuring that both get out in the fresh air to enjoy exercise, have a good time, meet friends and socialise.

The Bournemouth Canine Association Championship Dog Show is one of 37 major Championship dog shows throughout the year which enable dogs to qualify for the world’s largest dog show, dfs Crufts, in March 2011. For more information on dfs Crufts click here.
