Scent Discrimination in Obedience for Classes A and B
The Kennel Club recently discussed the method of giving scent to dogs in Obedience classes A and B.
Competitors are advised that scent should be given from the hand and not a cloth or other item taken into the ring by the competitor. To clarify this guidance Regulation G(C)2.f(2) has been amended as follows, with effect from 1 January 2011.
Regulation G(C)2.f.(2) – Scent Discrimination
FROM:
The method of taking scent is at the handler’s discretion. However in Class C this shall not require the judge to place his hand on or lean towards the dog.
TO:
Method of taking scent: in classes A and B the handler may only give the dog scent from their hand or hands. In Class C the Judge will provide the handler with a cloth carrying the Judge’s scent and the method of giving scent from the cloth will be at the handler’s discretion, but when providing the cloth the Judge shall not be required to place his hand on or lean towards the dog.
