'Dangerous' Dave Finds His Own Pot Of Gold

Dangerous%20Dave%20as%20TotoA Miniature Schnauzer called ‘Dangerous’ Dave has beaten hundreds of other dogs from Chihuahuas to Cairn Terriers, Leonbergers and even a Great Dane to win the part of Toto in the forthcoming gala performances of the West End show, The Wizard of Oz.

The audition process featured as part of the BBC1 programme, Over the Rainbow, with Toto hopefuls competing alongside potential Dorothys for a place in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical production, due to open at the London Palladium early next year.

Far from being dangerous, Dave is a highly trained canine with the Kennel Club’s Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme, having achieved its top level, the Gold award. This award is only gained by well behaved dogs and responsible owners who can demonstrate advanced domestic obedience skills such as walking at heel off the lead, going to bed on command, lying down out of the owner’s sight and being able to stop in an instant when required.

Dave will be joining Danielle Hope in the show after they both won their respective sections of the televised competition last weekend.

His owner Rachel said: “We are very proud of Dave and confident he will make a great Toto. His thorough training with the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme has been vital in securing the role. Dave has been taught how to remain calm in different situations and follow various commands. He also has a great stage presence, making him such a great choice.”

Toto panelist, Jodie Prenger backed up the judge’s decision behind picking Dave, saying: "He was just so consistent, and how can you not love a face like that?"

Any dog, regardless of its age or whether it is a pedigree or not, can take part in the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme which is run by over 1,800 dog training clubs and other organisations throughout the UK. For your nearest club, or for further information, please click here
