Do You Want Dog Control Orders in East Staffordshire?

KC Dog, the Kennel Club’s group in place to help responsible dog owners protect their rights, is alerting dog owners in Staffordshire to a dog control order consultation currently taking place in East Staffordshire which could restrict dog access in this area.

The council’s proposals include:

  1. Dog Fouling orders – to apply to all land in the borough which is open to the public, including roads, footpaths, pavements, grass verges, alleyways and towpaths, children’s play areas, allotments, parks and open spaces, including wooded areas. It is acceptable to put wrapped dog waste in public litter bins.
  2. Dogs on leads orders – to apply to every length of road in East Staffordshire which includes pavements and/or footpaths. Areas also affected could include, amongst others: Meadow View Open Space, Eton Road Community Park, Beaufort Road Open Space. A full breakdown of the proposed areas and maps are available on the council’s website.
  3. Dogs on leads by direction orders - to apply to any public open space in the borough.
  4. Dog Exclusion orders – to apply at all times. Areas affected include mainly fenced play areas. A full breakdown of the proposed areas and maps is available on the council’s website.

Representations regarding all of the above proposals may be made by email to DogControlOrders@eaststaffsbc.gov.uk or by using the council’s online form http://www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk/Services/DogFouling/Pages/default.aspx.

Alternatively they can be sent by post to East Staffordshire Borough Council, Dog Control Order Consultation, Enforcement Team, Town Hall, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, DE14 2EB. Any queries should be directed to the Enforcement Team on 01283 508576.  East Staffordshire Dog Control Orders

The official consultation was launched by East Staffordshire Borough Council on 12th January and will welcome responses for 28 days

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Communications Director, said “Dog control orders are becoming more common as councils attempt to find ways to control dog fouling and reign in irresponsible dog owners. Unfortunately this often means responsible dog owners are also penalised and have to suffer restrictions.

“Frequently, public consultations come and go without the majority of the public knowing about them or having a chance to have their say. KC Dog aims to alert people to dog control order consultations and thereby ensure the fairest outcome for all.”

KC Dog is an information network, free to join, whose members benefit from news and information on dog control orders across the UK.
