Watch it - Your Dog Could Soon be Excluded in Watchet
KC Dog, the Kennel Club’s group in place to help responsible dog owners protect their rights, is alerting dog
owners in Somerset to a dog control order consultation currently taking place in Watchet.
The Town Council of Watchet is considering making a ‘Dog Exclusion’ Order to make it an offence for anyone to allow a dog for which he or she is responsible to enter the area of land known as the Memorial Ground in the Parish of Watchet.
If made, the exclusion order will apply to all land bounded by West Somerset Railway fencing to the north; Youth Centre and Football Club and access routes from Helwell Lane to the east; Doniford Road to the south; and the boundary of the Children's Play Area, incorporating the tennis courts and access route to the west.
A map of the area to be covered by the proposed order can be viewed here or via the Council Office – Monday to Thursday 10.00am-12.30pm.
Representations should be in writing and sent to: Town Clerk, Watchet Town Council, Council Chamber, Swain Street, Watchet, TA23 OAB; or by email here.
All representations must be received by Watchet Town Council by 5 February 2010.
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Communications Director, said “Dog control orders are becoming more common as councils attempt to find ways to control dog fouling and reign in irresponsible dog owners.
Unfortunately this often means responsible dog owners are also penalised and have to suffer restrictions. Frequently, public consultations come and go without the majority of the public knowing about them or having a chance to have their say. KC Dog aims to alert people to dog control orders consultations and therefore ensure the fairest outcome for all.”
