The Kennel Club Public Affairs Team with Anne Snelgrove MP holding an electric shock collar The Kennel Club Public Affairs team has a wide ranging remit involving itself in issues such as: Tail docking, electric shock collars, dangerous dogs, puppy farming, chemicals testing on dogs, dog and cat fur, dog control orders and access.  It lobbies representatives of the Westminster, Scottish and European Parliaments, Welsh Assembly, as well as the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Scottish Government Environment and Rural Affairs Department and the Welsh Assembly Government Rural Affairs Department.  As a result it has influenced debate on the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act, the Animal Welfare Act, European legislation on a ban on the import, export and sale of dog and cat fur in the EU and European legislation on reducing animal testing (REACH).  The Public Affairs team also organises the Westminster Dog of the Year event in conjunction with the Dogs Trust.

These are the latest campaigns that the Kennel Club Public Affairs Team is actively involved with:

  • 'Fit For Function: Fit For Life'
  • The Kennel Club believes that every dog should be bred to be fit enough to enjoy its life to the full.
  • 'Open for Dogs'
    Help the Kennel Club break down barriers for dogs owners. If your business allows dogs in, display one of our stickers in your window.
  • 'Dangerous Dogs'
    The Kennel Club is working towards non breed specific legislation, 'deal with the deed not breed' and are lobbying the government to make these changes.
  • Animal Welfare Act
    The Animal Welfare Act came into effect on the 6th April 2007, and should provide much greater protection for animals by introducing a new welfare offence to those who are irresponsible owners.
  • Electric Shock Collar campaign
    Join the Kennel Club in calling upon the Government to introduce an outright ban on this cruel and unnecessary method of training dogs.
  • Issue Statements
    The Kennel Club's official position on important canine related issues. 
  • KC Dog
    A national dog owners group, KC Dog is a Kennel Club initiative that has been established to help dog owners protect themselves by keeping participants informed about local policies in the form of dog control orders, that may affect their rights.
  • Access for dog walkers
    Campaign to look after the rights of responsible  dog owners to walk their dogs in the countryside.
