YKC Members Invited to Learn About Dog Activities at the YKC Activity Weekend
The Young Kennel Club (YKC) is inviting all members to take part in an Activity Weekend, which provides a great way for YKC members to learn more about the activities they can participate in with their dog and offers the perfect opportunity to interact with other members.
The Activity Weekend is being run in conjunction with the National Dog Show, which is being held at Staffordshire County Showground on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May 2009.
Members can train with their dogs at all levels in Agility, Obedience and Handling over the weekend. It doesn’t matter whether members are completely new to the sport or have been competing for years; the YKC will be organising training to cover all levels of ability. The cost of training for an entire day is only £16.
There will also be a number of Crufts qualifying competitions for Obedience, Handling* and Grooming. The cost of entering into these competitions is £3 per class, and competitors who win first place will be eligible to compete with their dog in the YKC ring at Crufts 2010.
There is free parking and no admission charge for visitors at the show, and camping facilities are available on site. This provides a great opportunity to make this a family weekend away.
Caravans will be parked in a separate eight-acre field adjacent to the showground and linked by a tarmac footpath. Space on the caravan site is limited and early booking is advised. The cost of caravans is £30 if paid with entries, or £50 if paid on arrival (for the duration of the show and part thereof). Applications for camping and caravan facilities should be made in writing to Annette Oliver-Wyles, Whilton Marina, Whilton Locks, Nr Daventry NN1 2NH. Cheques payable to Birmingham Dog Show Society Ltd.
The closing date for YKC entries is 10th April 2009. For a schedule of events and entry forms visit www.ykc.org.uk/training-activities/activity-weekends. Further information relating to the showground can be found at www.nationaldogshowbirmingham.org.uk.
*Please note that the Handling class at this event is for dogs on the Activity Register and Companion Dog Register, but excludes dogs on the breed register. Dogs on the KC Breed Register may be entered into specific YKC classes at Open and Championship Shows.
