One Mile And Six Years Apart
A woman being reunited with her closest companion Bruno the cat helped mark the end of Petlog’s National Microchipping Month this June. Thanks to Petlog, Bruno was found six years later living only one mile away from owner Verity Degg.
Bruno was 5 years old when he went missing out of Verity’s friend’s garden. Verity, from Birmingham commented “Bruno was staying with my friend while I moved house back in 2002. Sadly, one morning he never returned. I searched absolutely everywhere, contacted all the local vets and put posters up. You name it, I did it! Not knowing was the worst bit. I could only assume the worst had happened to him.”
Luckily, being a responsible pet owner, Verity had had both her cats microchipped and recorded with Petlog, the UK’s largest reunification database. Being microchipped ensures that, if found, your pet can be safely returned to you.
Verity received the happy call, explaining that her cat was being taken care of by Cats Protection and had been scanned for his Bayer microchip Verity continued, “It seems Bruno had been taken in by an elderly lady and been cared for over the last few years. The worst part was finding out he was only one mile away from where he was staying! He was so close all this time!”
Bruno’s story comes just after National Microchipping Month (NMM) in June. NMM is held annually by the Kennel Club and Petlog, and aims to encourage vets from around the country to hold microchipping clinics in their surgeries to highlight how microchipping can ensure you never lose that special someone in your life.
Verity added, “I don’t know what I would have done if Bruno hadn’t been microchipped. He definitely wouldn’t be back at home with me now and I would still be wondering. The ironic thing is I had decided to go get a new cat the day I got the call! Petlog have reunited me with my beautiful Bruno and I am so grateful.”
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club spokesperson said, “We hope that Verity’s story highlights the importance of campaigns like National Microchipping Month. Having pets chipped at one of the hundreds of vet surgeries holding an event, has meant that if lost, family pets stand the highest possible chance of being returned to their owners.”
