Talented YKC Member Fascinates Britain with Heelwork to Music Routine

Sixteen year-old Young Kennel Club (YKC) member Kate Nicholas and her canine companion Gin have taken the phenomenon known as Britain’s Got Talent by storm and successfully secured her position as a ‘red hot favourite’ of the popular ITV programme.

Kate and Gin beat thousands of hopefuls recently by impressing the audience and judges with their extraordinary Heelwork to Music routine. According to the notoriously hard to please judge Simon Cowell, “…It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen…”

Heelwork to Music is regarded as an innovation in the world of dog training and involves competitors designing a heelwork routine to accompany a piece of music which lasts for four minutes. Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club spokesperson, said: “The beauty of this activity is the fact that anyone with any dog can participate, and in doing so they strengthen the bond between the owner and their pet”.

Heelwork to Music has no restrictions on a dog’s age, breed or pedigree and the dogs truly enjoy the activity which is often evidenced by their excited barks during the routine.

According to Kate, “Gin’s tried many other activities but Heelwork to Music is the one that she really enjoys. Heelwork to Music is different and means a lot to me because you can put your own stamp on it and express yourself through the routine”.

Kate and Gin have been doing Heelwork to Music for 15 months, starting off as beginners but quickly progressing to the advanced level. The duo has won all six competitions that they have entered and it seems that they have a long way to go yet.
