‘Best Christmas Present Ever’ For Lucy The Crossbreed And Her Owners - Petlog ends the 18 Month Search for ‘Lucy

Thanks to the Kennel Club reunification service, Petlog, Lucy the Yorkshire Terrier cross Jack Russell has been reunited with her family in time for new year.

Dog owner Kenneth Sawyer was distraught when Lucy was feared stolen or dead back in June 2006 when she went missing from a garden in Blackheath. At the time she was just over 3 years old and had recently given birth to a litter of puppies. She was in the garden with one of her puppies when she went missing and Mr Sawyer feared the worst when he found out that there were foxes nearby to the garden that she was taken from.

He had planned to go on holiday with Lucy and his daughter the next day, but he cancelled his summer holiday because he couldn’t bear to go without her.

However, the day after Boxing Day, Lucy was handed in to a police station and was consequently scanned for a microchip which contained her owners details.

Mr Sawyer said: “I couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas present. I’m so glad I had Lucy microchipped or I would never have got her back. Since being returned to me she hasn’t left my side, she seems elated, and for me, all my Christmas’s have come at once.”

Petlog safeguards the details of over 3 million pets so that if they do go missing they can be reunited with their owners more easily. Lucy’s fantastic Christmas story is just one of many success stories where pets and owners have been reunited because their owners have taken responsibility for their pets safety and welfare by having a microchip painlessly inserted under the pet’s skin. Sadly thousands of pets go missing every year and many are not reunited with their owners, as they do not have any form of identification

Petlog understands just how devastating it can be for an owner to lose a pet and is dedicated to encouraging owners to properly identify their pets, whether it’s a dog, cat, rabbit, tortoise or even a horse, so that, when found, they can be reunited as quickly as possible. Based in Buckinghamshire, Pet log is on hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to animal wardens, welfare centres, veterinary practices, rescue centres and local authorities, who can scan microchips found in missing pets and trace their owners through the Petlog database – a service dedicated to helping owners to find their lost pets.

Having a microchip implanted in your pet vastly increases a pet’s chances of getting home, as if found it can be scanned and identified by its unique reference number and reunited rather than put in kennels or rehomed. Petlog provides a range of services for microchipped pets, for further information please visit www.petlog.org.uk or call 0870 6066 751.
