Responsible Dog Ownership

Pet identification tagsA Good Citizen Dog Scheme demonstration from Crufts 2007The purpose of the Kennel Club Responsible Dog Ownership campaign is to promote and encourage responsible dog ownership to all individuals and their communities as an antidote to negative attitudes surrounding dog ownership.

The Responsible Dog Ownership campaign, focuses on the need for dog training, particularly through the Good Citizen Dog Scheme, cleaning up after your dog, pet identification and the encouragement of ethical treatment of dogs by preventing them suffering and possibly even dying over the summer months, in cars.

As the first port of call on all canine matters, the Kennel Club supports Responsible Dog Ownership within local authorities through sponsorship campaigns.

This year, we are liaising with a number of dog wardens and environmental health officers across the country, informing them of the Kennel Club’s guidelines which outline the safe way to travel with your dog during the summer months.
