Dogs take Centre Stage in the Derbyshire County Premier Open Show

The Derbyshire Agricultural & Horticultural Society will be holding its Premier Open Dog Show for all dog breeds, in conjunction with their Agricultural Show, at the Elvaston Showground in Derbyshire on 24th June. Top dogs from the local area will go head to head against other leading dogs from the length and breadth of the country and beyond.

This year the show has attracted a bumper entry of 1,243 dogs, all competing for the highly coveted ‘Best in Show’ award. Some of the successful winners will qualify to compete at the greatest and largest dog show in the world, Crufts, held annually at the NEC, Birmingham.

This year is also the dog section’s centenary year and to mark this landmark occasion, and create a little authenticity, the officers and committee will be wearing period costumes! There will be plenty to entertain the general public from watching the judges make their difficult decisions, to seeing the many dogs first hand. Visitors are warmly welcomed, and will enjoy browsing the trade stands at the show which sell a variety of gifts for canines and humans alike!

If you would like to experience the fascinating world of showing man’s best friend for yourself, come along on the 24th June. If you would like to find out more information on how to compete with your dog please have a look at the society’s website www.derbyshirecountyshow.org.uk. Car parking at the show is free of charge; however admission is £7.50 for adults and £4.50 for OAPs and children.
