Step 3 - you have read the considerations for a rescue dog

Step 4 – you know what to expect from a rescue society

Step 5 - you are now ready to Find a Rescue Dog

Remember never go to a pet shop!

The breeding stock may have come from puppy farmers - breeders out to make a quick profit often at the expense of the health and welfare of the puppies. Please read the article ‘Puppy farms, puppy dealers and pet shops’ as this will give you the facts if you were planning to buy a puppy from a pet shop or a puppy ‘dealer’.

The Kennel Club Find a Rescue Dog service provides contact details for breed rescues for your chosen pedigree dog breed in your area. Click on the button on the left to search.

If you are not able to find what you are looking for, or there are no breeders of your chosen pedigree dog breed currently listed, then you should contact the Breed Clubs.  The Breed Club secretaries can provide you not only with expert advice on your particular breed of interest, but put you in touch with other societies who may be able to help you with your search.  Breed Club contact details can be found on the right of the page when you search the Find a Rescue Dog service.

Kennel Club Breed Rescue

Kennel Club breed rescue organisations re-home more dogs every year than Battersea and Dogs Trust put together, with an annual total of approximately 24,000 of dogs re-homed.

The Kennel Club’s commitment to rescue continues to grow as we work ever more closely with breed rescue organsations to support the work that is done to find the right homes for pedigree dogs in the UK.  Breed rescue organisations have specialist knowledge about their particular breeds and can advise on the type of environment and care that the dogs require.
