Kennel Club Charitable Trust

Kennel Club Charitable Trust logoOur mission is simple

We are one charity, a dog charity which looks after the health and welfare of all dogs. We make a difference by funding a wide variety of work ranging from supporting research into canine diseases, dog welfare organisations and the promotion of support dogs, all of which give dogs a healthier, happier life.

Founded in 1987, we’ve donated almost £6 million to support these initiatives through various dog charity grants, and we couldn’t do all our work without the generosity of our donors.

Pet Care Network awarded grant from the Kennel Club Charitable Trust

Edinburgh charity Pet Care Network was awarded a grant of £2,000 from the canine dedicated charity, the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, to help local dogs and their owners in need of help.

About the Pet Care Network
Pet Care Network helps take care of dogs when owners are not able to, for short or long periods of time due to illness, disability or social problems. The grant was awarded in March this year and has since helped a number of dogs needing fostering and veterinary treatment.

This festive season, the charity is appealing for more volunteers as winter is typically the busiest time of year, with more people prone to illness and leaving dogs behind in the cold.

Theressa Hyde from Pet Care Network explained: “We make sure that owners unable to look after their pets for a period of time can be assured that their pet is safe and well cared for. We rely on volunteers to come forward and offer their help, as well as grants from organisations such as the Kennel Club Charitable Trust to ensure we give the best possible care to all of the animals we see.

“We have a few dogs our foster carers are looking after at the moment which have been helped through the Kennel Club Charitable Trust. Unfortunately, not all of our dogs can be reunited with their owners, and so some spend long periods of time in their foster homes before they find a permanent home.”

Give Betsy her forever home
Betsy is currently in the care of a Pet Care Network volunteer. She is a German Shepherd Dog who came into Pet Care Network when she was just 5 months old. She was brought to the charity by the local social work department as her elderly owner could not look after her. Betsy was not house trained and she had not been getting walks resulting in strange behavioural problems. Thanks to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust grant, Betsy was seen by a behaviourist and made significant progress. She is now with the German Shepherd Organisation who are advancing her training and looking out for a permanent home for her. Theressa explained: “As you can see from Betsy’s story, some of our dogs come with a little baggage and can be quite time consuming but the rewards when you help a dog and an owner speak for themselves.”

Pet Care Network helps people with disabilities or social needs whose pets require care. The charity’s network of volunteers is able to help look after pets when people are in hospital or care, and give them the opportunity to enjoy a rewarding and ongoing relationship with their pets.

Since its conception, Pet Care Network has helped hundreds of people with a range of constructive pet care help. This includes people in hospices who need help to keep their pets with them as long as possible; and people in sheltered housing, who are allowed to have their animals with them but often need them looked after while ill, and homeless people who need help until they can get back on their feet.”

Rehome a dog
