Agility Dog Measuring Changes

At its recent meeting the General Committee considered the recommendations forwarded by the Agility Liaison Council in relation to the procedure used for measuring agility dogs prior to competition.

With effect from 1 January 2007, Regulation H(1)(B).4 will be re-titled “Height Classification of Dogs” to reflect the fact that measurers allocate a height category for each dog rather than measuring them at a specific height.

The General Committee also agreed that a Working Party should be created to review the measuring process; this will begin during 2007.

Whilst the Working Party is reviewing the Regulations the General Committee has agreed that official measurers will have discretion to allow dogs that, in their opinion, are obviously over 430mm prior to reaching 15 months of age to be measured.

It has also been agreed that if, in the two measurers’ opinions, a dog is obviously over 430mm, the requirement for a second measurement can be struck out of the Agility Record Book and signed by the measurers.

These amendments only apply to new dogs that are being measured, not dogs that have already had their first measurement.

It is hoped that these concessions will alleviate some of the immediate concerns of handlers of large dogs and the problems official measurers have been facing.
