Cat Reunited After Three Year Search

Losing your pet can be a devastating experience, which is why Sharran Hickling  from Horwich in Bolton is pleased to help raise awareness of the importance of microchipping.  Sharran was recently reunited with Morris, her pet tabby cat more than three years after he went missing, thanks to the work of Petlog, the Kennel Club’s pet reunification service, the vital link in getting lost pets home.

Morris disappeared from the back garden of Sharran’s previous home in Rochdale, Lancashire in June 2003, which caused great sadness and distress to Sharran and her family.

Sharran said: “When Morris went missing we were all heartbroken. He just seemed to disappear into thin air with no clues to where he had gone.  It was an extremely upsetting and worrying time but we never gave up hope. We contacted the Petlog helpline who were very understanding and sympathetic and they gave us encouragement and ideas to help with our search.”

Sharran and her family displayed leaflets around the neighbourhood and searched high and low for Morris however it wasn’t until three years later that a lady in Haslingden, Lancashire discovered Morris 20 miles from where he had originally gone missing. Luckily she fed Morris and took him to the vet, who was able to identify him by scanning and reading his unique Petlog reference number on the microchip inserted under his skin.

Sharran said: “When I heard the news that Morris had been found I was absolutely overwhelmed and couldn’t quite believe it.  Morris wouldn’t have been returned to me

if he hadn’t been microchipped. I’m so grateful to both Petlog and the lady who found Morris for all their help. Morris was greatly missed. It’s absolutely fantastic to have him back.”
