Kennel Club Charitable Trust helps Greyhounds & Lurchers in Wiltshire
Too commonly associated with racing instead of the great household pets they actually are, hundreds of Greyhounds and Lurchers are in need of a home. Only through grants from organisations such as the Kennel Club Charitable Trust can charities like Greyhound and Lurcher Welfare and Rescue in Wiltshire continue to rehome these fantastic animals.
The Kennel Club Charitable Trust gave Greyhound and Lurcher Welfare and Rescue a grant of £3,000 earlier in the year, which helped pay for a seventh emergency kennel which has already proved invaluable. The charity rescues dogs from all over the country and rehomes them to loving new owners throughout Wiltshire and the surrounding counties.
Paying for the kennel fees, food, neutering, vaccinations, microchipping and transportation, as well as bedding, blankets and coats amounts to thousands of pounds, and the Kennel Club Charitable Trust was keen to support the charity in its work.
Dogs such as Sandy, Bobby and Tarquin have all been temporarily homed in the new kennel before finding permanent homes with new owners. Bob Mitchell, Trustee at Greyhound and Lurcher Welfare and Rescue explained: “A Lurcher called Sandy was the first dog to benefit from the extra kennel, and was only there for a few weeks before two lovely ladies fell in love with him.
“Then Bobby came to us, and with his lovely friendly nature he was also only with us for a short while before finding new owners in Salisbury, where he has settled into his new home very well.
“Tarquin, who we call Mr T, arrived about two months ago, from the north east where he was faced with being put to sleep - apparently he was the last dog from a racing kennel that had gone bust. He loves everyone and gets on well with all the other Greyhounds. He hasn’t shown any aggression to other dogs or small animals in the time that we have had him in kennels and he walks very well on the lead. All our volunteer dog walkers love him and so we are confident he will find a new home soon.”
