'English Setter & Gordon Setter In Art' On Display At The Kennel Club Art Gallery, London
An exhibition of the ‘English Setter & Gordon Setter in Art’ is set to go on display from the end of this month at the Kennel Club Art Gallery in London’s Mayfair.
The exhibition includes a wonderful selection of paintings, sculptures, trophies and canine ephemera, some of which have never been seen in public before.
Amongst the pieces on display is a 1903 Maud Earl painting of the English Setters Ightfield Gaby and Ightfield Duke. Bred and owned by gundog enthusiast A P Heywood-Lonsdale, both dogs enjoyed illustrious careers at field trial events at the beginning of the twentieth century.
The artwork also features a selection of Phyllis Binet pastels, notably the head study of the English Setter, Sh Ch Elswood Renmark Baronet, a winner and important sire from the early 1980s (pictured right).
Visitors to the exhibition will also have the chance to see a wonderful collection of models depicting both breeds, such as a small but perfectly formed nineteenth century bronze of a Setter on the move, a P J Mene dark patina bronze and an unusual Lladro English Setter sculpted by Juan Huerta.
Pieces by Celia J Roberts, Redfern Harris, Reuben Ward Binks, Leon Dachin and John Emms complete the unique and varied artwork to be displayed during the exhibition.
The ‘English Setter & Gordon Setter in Art’ opens on 31st January and runs until 24th June 2011. To arrange a viewing, please contact the Kennel Club Art Gallery on 020 7518 1064 or at artgallery@thekennelclub.org.uk.
