Local Youngster Wins At The Scottish Kennel Club Championship Dog Show
Eleven year old Lewis Fraser from Inverness last weekend won the Young Kennel Club (YKC) dog handling competition at the Scottish Kennel Club Championship Dog Show with his Beagle, Maisie.
Lewis is no stranger to success - he qualified for this year’s final of the Scottish Junior Handler of the Year competition in Edinburgh in May. He wasn’t placed in the final but gave strong competition whilst handling a dog that he had met at only 2pm that afternoon. Lewis has now qualified for next year’s final too and is hoping to show his dog Aston, who he co-bred with his mother Jackie Fraser, a registered Kennel Club Accredited Breeder.
Lewis said: ”I used to be scared of dogs until I got a Beagle. Now I have three and my mum and I bred our first litter this year. Maisie is the dog I show most of the time, and she is very mischievous but very loving. I cycle every night and Maisie runs alongside me.”
Lewis’s win means that he has also qualified for the world’s largest dog show, dfs Crufts where he will be able to compete with a dog he has helped breed himself as a Kennel Club Accredited Breeder, a major feat even for someone twice his age.
Lewis and his mother have a healthy and professional attitude towards breeding, taking responsible steps to ensure they have healthy litters. As Kennel Club Accredited Breeders they agree to have all of the required health tests for their dogs carried out, and follow comprehensive guidelines to ensure their dogs have the best chance of producing happy, healthy puppies.
The Scottish Kennel Club Dog Show is one of 37 major Championship dog shows throughout the year which enable dogs to qualify for the world’s largest dog show, dfs Crufts, in March 2011. For more information on dfs Crufts click here.
