Irish Terrier

Characteristics There is a heedless, reckless pluck about the Irish Terrier which is characteristic. [Delete  ‘and, coupled with the headlong dash, blind to all consequences, with which he rushes at his adversary, has earned for the breed the proud epithet of ‘the Daredevils’. When ‘off duty’ they are characterised by a quiet caress-inviting appearance, and when one sees them endearingly, timidly pushing their heads into their master’s hands, it is difficult to realise that on occasions, at the ‘set on’, they can prove that they have the courage of a lion, and will fight to the last breath in their bodies. They develop an extraordinary devotion for, and have been known to track their masters almost incredible distances’]. They develop a great devotion for their masters.

Eyes Dark, relatively small, not prominent. A light or yellow eye highly undesirable.

Scottish Terrier

General Appearance Thick-set, of suitable size to go to ground, which would preclude dogs of excessive body weight, short-legged, alert in carriage and suggestive of great power and activity in small compass. Head gives impression of being long for size of dog. Very agile and active in spite of short legs.

Coat Double. Undercoat short, close, soft and woolly. Outer coat [delete ‘long’] reasonable length, hard, straight, flat and free from curl, never impeding action. Hair on head shorter, softer, veiling forehead and eyes, but not obscuring vision. Mingling with side locks, surrounding ears like a fringe and allowing their shape to appear.

Welsh Terrier

Eyes Relatively small, [delete ‘well set in’] dark, expression indicative of temperament. A round, full eye undesirable

West Highland White Terrier

Eyes Set wide apart, medium in size, not full, as dark as possible. [Delete ‘Slightly sunk in head’] Sharp and intelligent, which, looking from under heavy eyebrows, impart a piercing look. Light coloured eyes highly undesirable.

Coat Double coated. Outer coat consists of harsh hair, about 5 cms (2ins) long, free from any curl. Undercoat, which resembles fur, short, soft and close. Open coats most undesirable.  Skin must appear healthy.
