World Union of German Shepherd Clubs (WUSV) backs Kennel Club Campaign for a complete ban on Electric Shock Collars!
The Kennel Club is delighted that the two member clubs of the WUSV in the UK, the British Association for German Shepherd Dogs (BAGSD) and the German Shepherd Dog League of Great Britain (GSDL), are supporting its campaign to completely ban electric shock collars.
The endorsement of the largest German Shepherd clubs in the country will add tremendous clout to the Kennel Club’s argument that it is not necessary to use an electric shock collar to train any breed of dog – even those bred as working dogs or police, military or security dogs.
In a letter to the Kennel Club Secretary, the Chairman of BAGSD, Mr Robert Honey wrote: “Due to statements from both the Kennel Club and the WUSV concerning electric collars and prong collars the Executive Committee has now passed a motion to exclude this equipment from any of their training branches”. Mr Honey went on to state “It is the duty of all relevant officers of the British Association of German Shepherd Dogs to ensure that the practice of these collars are not used or seen at their branches”.
Said Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary: “The Kennel Club is heartened that the WUSV and its two member clubs in Great Britain have completely banned electric shock collars from its training branches. Their recognition that electric shock collars are not appropriate devices to train any dog adds great strength to the Kennel Club’s calls on Defra to introduce a complete ban on electric training aids as part of the Animal Welfare Bill”.
Said Mr Honey: “Training dogs through pain and fear must stop and banning electric shock collars and prong collars from our training branches marks a significant step towards realising this goal.”
